Sabrina Greer came of age in the late nineties / early aughts when heroin chic was more than a trend, it was the culture. We circled our flaws in Cosmo, counted calories, tried each fad diet, and watched impossibly thin women sell us everything from perfume and haute couture to the bodies we believed we were supposed to have, while visibility, desirability, and objectification were increasingly sold back to us as empowerment.

An entire generation of girls learned to disappear. To be silent. To measure their worth in numbers on a scale or waistband.

Sabrina was one of them.

Sabrina traveled the world, lived the dream, and was the image other girls were taught to chase. She then spent the next twenty years helping women reclaim the authority of their own pasts and futures.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Sabrina Greer

Sabrina Greer has spent much of her life navigating the space between being seen and being known.

Discovered by the fashion industry at thirteen, she spent her formative years travelling the world as an international model during the height of the heroin-chic era. Behind the glossy campaigns, exotic destinations, and illusion of glamour was a young woman coming of age in an industry that taught her how to be desired long before she understood what it meant to be loved.

Her life has been anything but linear.

A survivor of sexual violence, addiction, disordered eating, and the complicated inheritance of childhood trauma, Sabrina has spent the better part of two decades exploring the stories we tell ourselves, the identities we perform, and the extraordinary human capacity to begin again.

With a master's degree in Integrative Psychology and a background in human development, she brings both lived experience and a deep understanding of the human psyche to her writing. Her work lives at the intersection of memoir, psychology, cultural commentary, and the messy, beautiful contradictions of being human.

Today, Sabrina is a writer, speaker, women's advocate, philanthropist, and mother of three boys. She is the founder of fEMPOWHER Global, a Canadian registered charity dedicated to helping girls and young women find their voices before the world teaches them to silence them.

Smoke & Mirrors: Reflections of a Former Fashion Model is her most personal work yet. A raw, poetic reckoning with the beauty standards, cultural conditioning, and impossible expectations that shaped an entire generation of women, told through the eyes of a girl who lived inside the very machine that manufactured them.

She lives on a rural Canadian farm with her husband, their three sons, and an ever-evolving collection of animals, where she is learning that a life worth living has very little to do with how it looks from the outside.
